X suspension letter stamped FICTION CANNOT BE VERIFIED, signed E. Musk
The Algorithm Got Me.
It's Fine. Kind of.

So. X permanently suspended my account this week.

No human reviewed it. Automated system, permanent decision, no appeal. The notice said my content was too egregious to restore. Case closed. Account gone.

Here's the part I keep thinking about. I write a book about automated systems making permanent decisions about people without human review. That's not a theme in the book. That's the plot. The central argument. The thing I spent two years trying to say.

The algorithm couldn't tell the difference between a fictional radicalized militia soldier and a real one. Which is, honestly, kind of the whole point.

The character whose video got me banned is named Jake. He's not a hero. He's what happens to someone after years of targeted content does its work on them. I built him to be convincing. Apparently I did okay on that front.

I added the Elon signature myself. He didn't actually sign it. Though at this point I figure he owes me one.

Starting fresh. Same story. If you know someone who would find this whole situation either funny or depressing or both, send it their way. The book that got me banned launches April 30.

Some days the marketing writes itself.
